The Need for Leaders
All around us we see people who are leading others in various ways. It is a fact of life. Every group of people need a leader or leaders to show them the right way to go and the right things to do. If we have good leaders, things go well. If we have bad leaders, it can be a disaster. We see this all through the Bible, as well. God sent many leaders for His people. They made a huge difference in the lives of all of the people. When God told Moses he would not lead the people into Canaan, because he would die soon, Moses asked God to appoint a new leader. (Numbers 27:15-17) Moses knew they needed someone to follow, both going out and coming it. If they did not have a good leader, they would be like sheep without a shepherd, and Moses did not want that to happen. Therefore, God told him to commission Joshua to take His place, and he showed the Israelites the way of the Lord in taking over Canaan. Who are our leaders now?
Leaders are not born. We grow in our ability to lead, if we learn from the Lord as we grow older. Also, God gives us spiritual gifts, when we become a Christian. Some of us get the gift of leadership, and we are commanded to use it to help God's people. However, we are all being led by someone, and all of us are leading someone else. Husbands are to be led by God, and we are to lead our wife and children. Some of us are leaders in the church, to keep the people of God on track with God's purpose. Others are leading one or two other people in becoming more like Jesus. Any leadership role is vital for the Kingdom of God to function as He designed. Therefore, I am asking all of us to answer these questions. Who are our leaders, and are they leading us in the right way? Also, who are we leading, and how are we doing in leading them in God's will? If we fail to have godly leaders and to be godly leaders, we will see Satan win many battles, which he never should have been able to win. Let's take leadership seriously. Let's make it a matter of prayer, so we find God's will in every case which involves leadership. Then, we will see our life improve significantly.
