Hurting God
I wonder if we have ever thought about how we hurt God? Yes, it is true that we can hurt God. Remember, God is love. He desires a close relationship with each of us. When we become His followers, it makes Him very happy. There is rejoicing in heaven over every lost soul that comes to know the Lord. However, we hurt God when we turn from Him to worship idols. (Ezekiel 6:9) Ezekiel assured the Israelites that they had hurt God by their adulterous hearts and their eyes that played the harlot with idols. This hurt the hearts of the Israelites, when they finally saw how they had hurt God, so that they loathed themselves in their own sight for their abominations. We need to search our own hearts to make sure we are not hurting God, too.
An idol is anything that takes our heart away from the Lord. It is anything on which we spend our time, so that God does not get the best of our time. It is anything that takes our money away from the Lord, when it should go to Him. It doesn't need to be a little statue of a god or goddess. It can be TV, the Internet, Sports, shopping, money, power or fame. We must not let our eyes play the harlot with those types of things. We must always love God, the most, and put Him first in everything. If we fail to do that, as a believer, we hurt God, and we should loathe ourselves in our own sight for our abominations, just as Israel did.
