The Friend, the Holy Spirit

I am afraid many believers are ignorant of the Holy Spirit. It is partly because the name sounds impersonal and almost mysterious. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. The Holy Spirit is a Person, the Third Person of the trinity, so He is very personal. He is not just a force or a ghost. He is the Agent of the Father to do His work in and through believers and the church as a whole. In reality, He is our Friend. Various translations translate this word, Comforter or Helper. Yes, He is both of those to us, as well. Jesus told His disciples before His death that the Father would send the Friend to them at His request. (John 14:25,26) Then, their New Friend, the Holy Spirit would help them to accomplish the work Jesus had prepared them to do once He was gone. Let's see what our Friend does for us even today.

God gives each believer the Holy Spirit, so He can make everything plain to us. Unbelievers can't understand spiritual things, but we, as believers, can because of the help of the Spirit. In fact, He leads us into all truth, if we will listen to Him and obey what He says to us. He also reminds us of that the Lord has told us. In our case, that means that He reminds us of the things we have read in God's Word, the Bible. We have to memorize the Bible or at least be familiar with it. Then, once we do our part, He can help us recall what we have read and studied. Both of these things are essential for us to accomplish what God has for us to do in our every day lives. I pray we will not be ignorant of the Friend, the Holy Spirit. Let's make it a point to be a good friend with the Holy Spirit, since He is in us to be our Friend.
