The Tenth is Holy to God

It is interesting that Moses ends the book of Leviticus with the blessings and the curses in chapter 26 and then a chapter of how to consecrate people, animals, and things to the Lord. Why would he end this way? I am not sure, but I think it has to do with making sure we handle all of the "holy" things in the right way. This is more important to the Lord than we might think. At the end there is one admonition that is till in effect for us today. The tenth part of our income is holy to God. (Leviticus 27:30) We need to make sure we know how seriously God takes this.

I have emphasized the meaning of the word "holy" many times over the years. It is such an important word, but more than that it is a truth we must understand and obey. Believers are holy, because we have been set apart for God. That is why we are called saints. We need to live out our holiness every day. However, there are other things that are holy, too. The tenth part or tithe of all God gives us is holy to God. It belongs to Him, and we are to give it back to Him. Even though God owns everything, and we are just managers of what He allows us to use, the tenth is for us to give to Him in worship and faith. It shows we are trusting Him to provide for us. It is the way we show that He is Lord of all. If we fail to give the tenth back to God, we are robbing Him of what He is due. (Malachi 3:8-10) Therefore, He commands us to bring them into His storehouse, which is the local church today.  This is God's provision for the advances of His kingdom in this world. I pray that we all know the blessings of being faithful to give the tenth to God.
