One Key to Intimacy with God

Moses was used by God in a very extraordinary way. There is no question that God had prepared Moses to be His servant by saving his life after birth and having him to be raised in Pharaoh's house. However, God would not have been able to use Moses as much as He did, if Moses had not decided to have one character quality that is very important to God. Moses was a quietly humble man, more so than anyone else on the earth. Because of this God spoke with him intimately, and Moses was even able to see the form of God as they spoke. This was God's way of exalting him in the sight of the people, so they would respect him as their leader. (Numbers 12:3,8) God is still looking for people like Moses today.

Humility is so important if we are to be used by God. Pride causes us to want our own way and to resist God's will. It even makes it harder for us to hear from God, because our pride leads us to have our mind made up without seeking Him fully. We think we can do it all ourselves. The Lord loves a quietly humble person, because that person will follow Him completely, without questioning God. When we are humble we trust God, not ourselves. God loves to fellowship with humble people. Then, when we are humble, He speaks to us in a more intimate way, since He knows we are listening, and we will obey what He says. We don't think about humble people being good leaders, but God exalts the humble, and humbles those who exalt themselves. When God exalts us in the eyes of others because of our special relationship with Him, we have their respect. If they do not respect us, God will come against them, as He came against Israel for disrespecting Moses.
