Returning and Resting

What do you do when you are afraid, and you don't really know what to do? That is a huge time of testing in our lives. Many of us choose to go ahead and do something, even if it turns out to be the wrong thing. We somehow believe that taking action is better than doing nothing. However, that is not how God works at all. We should not get ahead of God or lag behind Him. Isaiah taught the people of God a lesson that all of us need to follow all of the time. We will be delivered in our times of distress by returning and resting, not by action. Our strength will lie in quiet confidence in God, not in our own power. (Isaiah 30:16) Let's take a minute to think about what this means to us.

When we do not know what to do, the best thing we can do is to return to the Lord, as quickly as possible. We should turn to His Word and to prayer. We should repent of trying to do things our self, if that is what we have done. Then, we should rest in Him, focusing on Him, until we hear the way to proceed. His timing is so important. His power of absolutely essential. Therefore, there is no need to get in a hurry to do something. We must learn to return to Him and rest in Him. Then, in the quiet of the moment we hear from Him, and we can have quiet confidence that we will have His strength to face our situation. This is why we have no need to fear. We have the Lord on our side, as long as we are doing His will in His way and with His strength.
