Depending on the Lord
I am sure that most of us would say that we depend on the Lord, if someone asked us that. However, is that really true of us, when we come up against a strong enemy or a huge obstacle? I pray that it is true for all of us, but in case that it isn't, we need to stop and make that decision. I believe we can see the right commitment by looking at King Asa of Judah. He had come up against a large enemy army, and he did all of the right things. (II Chronicles 14:11) Let's see what he did and what we should do.
First and foremost, King Asa started by crying out to the Lord. Is that what we do first, or do we worry first. Maybe, we try other things before we call on the Lord. Either of those responses shows a lack of depending on God. Then, Asa confessed that only God could help, whether we are a mighty person or a person without strength. The reason for this is that without Him, we can do nothing.(John 15:5) In order to truly depend on the Lord consistently, we have to base our lives on that fact. Finally, Asa depended on the Lord, going against the large army "in the name of the Lord." Jesus is our Lord. Therefore, we fight based on our relationship with Him, depending on Him to help us, since we belong to Him. We should depend on Him, knowing no mortal human can hinder His will in any way. When our lives are characterized by these things, we are truly depending on the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 15-18.
