We Will Serve the Lord
Joshua warned the people about what would happen if they failed to keep their covenant with the Lord. God would actually fight against them, instead of fighting for them. The people pledged their allegiance to God, but Joshua was not sure they really meant what they said. Therefore, he just laid out his commitment to all the people. They could decide to worship whichever gods they wanted to worship, but he and his family would worship the Lord. (Joshua 24:15) All believers should exhibit the same resolve that Joshua had.
Today we have people worshiping every kind of god imaginable. They are all around us. We can't look at any type of media without seeing all types of idols and how people are committed to them. This presents a temptation for us. We are tempted to conform to the world around us. Many people do go along with what everyone else is doing, because they do not want to be seen as being different. They want to be accepted. However, this way of living takes us down the broad road that leads to destruction. We must determine that we will be loyal to the Lord Jesus Christ alone. He must receive all of our worship and devotion. He gave His all for us, so we must give our all to Him. Let's all decide now that as for us and our family, we will serve the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 3-5.
