Too Many Troops

Most of the time we want to have as many troops as possible when we go into battle. We want to have many more than the enemy, if possible. When we have the numerical advantage, we feel like we have a better chance for victory. However, the Lord told Gideon that he had too many troops for God to deliver the Midianites over to the Israelites. He made him choose only 300 men to go to battle, when the Midianites had a great multitude. God had a great reason for this choice. He was afraid that if more troops went to battle that the Israelites might elevate themselves over God and say they had won the battle in their own strength, instead of in God's strength. (Judges 7:2) I think this might teach us why the Lord does the same kind of thing for us today.

Many times, we want to feel secure in what we are doing before we attempt it. We want to think that we are strong enough to do something before we try it. Other times, we want to be sure we are smart enough to accomplish a task before we will begin. If we do things that way, we will not trust in God, but ourselves. We will fail to see God work, because we are only attempting to do what we can do ourselves. Is that what you want for your life? I don't want that, at all. I want to see things happen that can only be explained by God's power, and I want Him to get all of the credit. I want to see things that are impossible for me or any other person or group of people to do. That is one of the most glorious things we can ever experience. Le't trust God like Gideon did, so we can see God move. Then, we will be amazed at what happens.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Judges 10-13.
