Honor Your Father and Mother
David was in a terrible predicament. King Saul was so jealous that he was out to kill David and everyone who sided with David in any way. David had a group of men who joined with him, and they all had to flee for their lives. They had to live in the forests and even in other countries to hide from Saul. However, as David had to put up with all of this stress, he did not forget to take care of his father and mother, because Saul could have been willing to kill them, too. Therefore, David took them to Moab and asked the king to care for his parents until David knew what God would do for him. (I Samuel 22:3) I wonder if all of us are honoring our parents in the way we should?
Of course, the fifth commandment is to "Honor your father and your mother." It is the one commandment with a promise. If we honor our parents, it will lead to having a good life. God is serious about family and how we should love each other. It is up to us as children to listen to our parents, and then, when we are older to take care of them the best we can. David gave his parents the royal treatment by entrusting them to the king of Moab. I think we should give our parents that type of honor in every way we can. After all, God gave them to us as our providers and our guides, so that we could grow up well. Shouldn't we make sure they are able to live the best life they can, too. I believe that is God's plan, and He blesses us when we do that.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 24-26.
