Equality in God's Army
While David and his men were away, the Amalekites raided the city of Ziklag where David's men and their families were living. Their city was burned and all of their possessions and family members were taken away by the raiders. This upset David's men so much they spoke of stoning him. However, David sought the Lord, and the Lord told him to pursue the Amalekites, and he would recover their family members and everything that was taken. As they traveled 200 of his men became so weary they could not continue, so David let them stay behind with the supplies. Then, after all was recovered with a lot more of the Amalekites plunder, also, the men did not want to share with those who had stayed behind. David rebuked them and made a rule that stayed in effect. He said that all of the plunder would be shared equally by those who fought and those who stayed with the supplies. (I Samuel 30:24) I believe this still applies to God's army today.
The church is God's army today. Yes, we are Christ's body and God's family, too, but our main mission is to expand the Kingdom of God in this world by sharing the Gospel and seeing people come to know Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20) Each member of the army has a function given to us by the Holy Spirit. We are all to share the gospel, but some have the gift of being an evangelist. Some are intercessors, who pray for individuals to come to Christ. Others of us are given the responsibility for the whole army to help the army to be spiritually strong. I could go on and on. I hope you understand. Even though we engage in different activities for the spread of the Kingdom, we all share equally in the results of our spiritual warfare. We rejoice when we see people come to Christ, knowing that we all played a part in their salvation. Then, we all benefit when the church grows in Spiritual power and in number. I pray that we will be faithful members of God's army today!
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 31 and II Samuel 1-3.
