Completely Sanctified
Most people seem to be satisfied with coming to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, so that their sins are forgiven, and they have a home in heaven. That is wonderful, but it is just the starting line of salvation and the Christian life. There is so much more that God wants us to have! If we stop there, we miss much of our purpose, as a child of God. Like any good parent, God desires to see His children grow strong and mature in every area. That process is called sanctification. God's goal is for us to be completely sanctified, and then, to walk in that fully sanctified state of being until Jesus calls us home. (I Thessalonians 5:23) I pray we all understand that.
Every person has a spirit, soul, and body. Each one needs to experience sanctification. That happens when we are separated from this world's sin, and separated to God's righteousness. Our spirit is sanctified first, when we come to know Christ, but then, there is more growth that can take place in how we relate to God through our spirit. Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions, which need to be completely given to God and renewed to be the way they would have been if we had not sinned. That takes time, and it takes a lot of repenting of sins and replacing them with righteousness. This is even true for our physical body. We are to use it only for the Lord and not misuse it, since it is the temple of the Holy Spirit. If we do these things, and keep walking in the Spirit, we will be completely sanctified to stand before the Lord. He will be very pleased if we reach His goal for our life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Thessalonians 2-3 and I Timothy 1.
