One Thing I Do
The apostle Paul was very focused on doing God's will for his life, once he came to faith in Christ. He knew his mission was to spread the gospel to the whole world. However, there was one goal that was even more important than that. What was it, you ask? Paul was striving to be the person who was the most like His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, when he finally stood before the Lord. (Philippians 3:13,14) He knew reaching that goal would enable him to accomplish whatever God had for him. The same is true for all believers today.
It is true that we will never reach perfection in this world. That is what Paul said of himself in this passage. However, that should not cause us to fail to strive for the perfection of Jesus Christ. In order to achieve that goal, we must be single-minded. We have to put the past behind us, for we can't do anything to change the past now. What we can do is to live life like an athlete running a sprint. We must put all of our discipline and effort into reaching the goal to be the person who is most like Christ. We must strain forward each day for that prize. Then, we will be ready when the trumpet sounds to meet Christ in the air or when we die and stand before Him for our time of judgment. Either way, it is our aim to win the prize, to be the best, which is to be like Jesus in every possible way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Philippians 4 and Colossians 1-2.
