The Apple of His Eye
All believers need to have a good understanding of how God looks at us, how He feels about us, and what He thinks of us. There are many Bible passages that address these things. However, the prophet Zechariah gave us a very special one in his book. We are the "apple of His eye." (Zechariah 2:8) That is a very meaningful phrase that shows us our place in God's heart and mind.
The phrase "the apple of one's eye" means someone who is most dear and valuable to the person. It comes from the fact that the pupil of the eye is shaped somewhat like an apple. The pupil was made to open, so we can see, and to close to protect our eye at a moments notice. When we see someone who is dear to us, sometimes we say that our eyes "light up." They have a special gleam in them, because of our love and affection for that person. That is exactly what God feels when He sees us. He wants to protect us and to lavish His care upon us, because He loves us. Please, never doubt God's great love for us, as believers. After all, He gave Himself for us. He bought us with the price of Christ's precious blood, and we belong to Him. We are His most treasured possession. Even when we fail, our Father never ceases to love us, and He does whatever He can to draw us to Himself.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 3-5.
