Holy Place, Holy Garments, Holy People

I have found that many people do not really understand the meaning of the word holy. How can a place be holy and garments be holy, when we say some people are holy, too? There is something that all three have in common, but what is it? Ezekiel was shown the huge Temple that will be built in Jerusalem for the time of the Tribulation and the Millennium. In fact, he gave us a specific description of all of the dimensions. The inner part of the Temple will be the Holy Place, just like the other Temples in the past. The clothes of the priests will be holy, too, since they are worn by holy people in the Holy place. (Ezekiel 42:14) Let's try to put this all together with an application for us today.

Holy means to be "set apart from the normal for a specific purpose." Holy places are set apart for the worship of a holy God by holy people like priests. Priests are holy because they are set apart by God to lead the people in worship. The holy garments are the clothes that are set apart to be worn only in the service of worship in the Holy Place. Therefore, whenever something or someone is set apart for the Lord and His use, it is holy. Did you know that Christians are holy? We are called saints, which means "holy ones." (I Corinthians 1:2) When we trust Christ, we do not become perfect. We do not glow in the dark or have a special language. We are set apart from the other people who do not know the Lord for God to use to reach those who do not know the Lord. (I Peter 2:9,10) We are to be examples of God's grace and power to change people, so others will come to know Jesus. We are set apart to bring glory to God, not to ourselves. In fact, we are priests with the purpose of leading people to be reconciled to God and have their sins forgiven. If we are saved, we must never forget that we are holy and just what that means.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 43-45.
