They Dealt Honestly

When King Jehoash or Joash took over the throne, he did what was right in God's eyes with the help of Jehoiada, the priest. One project was to repair the temple which had fallen into disrepair because of neglect. When they collected the money for the repairs, they simply gave it to the official who paid the workers, without requiring an accounting for their disbursements. The reason they were lax in this area was they knew these men "dealt honestly." (II Kings 12:15) When it comes to financial integrity, what is your reputation?

The Lord wants each of us to be people of integrity, especially when it comes to money. If we fail to be trustworthy when it comes to financial dealings, we will cause our reputation to take a serious hit. People need to know that we are always honest, and we always do what we do in the open, above board and with good judgement. When they see this with money, they have a good reason to trust us in other areas, too. When we can avoid greed and dishonesty with money, we show the Lord and everyone that our hearts are set on the right things, not earthly things.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 13-15.
