Commended by God
We all have a reputation among the people who know us. It is important for us to have a reputation of integrity and to have others know we are sincere in our faith in the Lord. However, what really matters is what God says about us. If people complement us, it is nice, but if God commends us, that is truly amazing. Hezekiah received the highest commendation of any king of Judah for how he trusted God. (II Kings 18:5) Since this included the kings before and after him, it meant he trusted the Lord even more than David, the man after God's own heart.
This commendation makes me think about what Jesus will say to us when we see Him. The first consideration is to make sure we see Him in heaven, but not at the Great White Throne Judgment. If we see Him in heaven, it means we belong to Him, having been washed by His blood and forgiven of every sin. Still, we will have to go through a time of having Him judge how we lived in this world. At that time, what will He say? Will we be commended for our faith or will He express disappointment in how we trusted Him? I pray that we will all receive His high commendation. That will make all of the trials of life worth all of the effort we put into staying faithful to Him no matter what happened.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 19-22.
