Anguish over Sin
King Josiah became king when he was 8 years old. His heart was still tender toward the things of the Lord. Then, the Book of the Law was found in the temple as his renovation project was taking place. His aids read the book to him, and he was overwhelmed by what he heard and tore his clothes in anguish. Josiah realized the wrath of God against their sin, and he set out single handedly to correct the sinful ways of his people.(II Kings 22:11,13) I wonder how much anguish we have over the sins of our people?
Josiah was not responsible for the sins of their forefathers, but he felt a great burden. Read the prayers of Daniel and Nehemiah as those righteous men wept over the sins of their people and confessed the sins like they belonged to them. I can't help but think if we as Christians would have that same sense of anguish over sin and make the same confessions that God would be much more likely to hear our prayers and to heal our land. I pray that you will join with me to pray for the USA and for our world with the same urgency as these godly men. Then, let's see what God does when He sees the sincerity of our hearts.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 23-25 and I Chronicles 1.
