Wise Counsel
Who do you know that you can count on to give you wise counsel any time you need it? If you have a person in your life of whom that is true, you are very fortunate. When we find someone who gives wise counsel consistently, it is because they know the word of God and the will of God so well that their counsel is like consulting the word of God. (II Samuel 16:23) In David's reign as king the counsel of his aid Ahithophel was like that, so he was esteemed by both David and Absalom.
We all need wise counsel from time to time to make decisions and to make sure we stay on track with the Lord. It is possible for us to fail to see the right path, because we see things from our own perspective, instead of having an objective view of ourselves and our situation. It is then we need a wise counselor who is objective and very honest with us. This person can't just be a friend. He or she must always tell us the truth of God's Word even when it hurts us or we need correction. That is the only way the counsel can always be correct. I pray that we will have people around us to give us this wise counsel, and I pray that we can render wise counsel like this to others.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 18-20.
