Ruling with Justice and Equity
There are certain things that we look for from our leaders and those who hold elected office. I believe everyone wants them to administer justice and equity to all of the people. This is true regardless of political party. Each person should have the desire to be treated with justice and for that justice to be applied with equity to all people, no matter their race or background. That is how David reigned over all Israel, when he became king over all 12 tribes. We need to hold our leaders accountable to this high standard. It would be a great help to our country.
Justice is doing the right thing for a particular situation or crime. It is not right for one person to get a lesser sentence than another person for the same crime with all other things being equal. Unfortunately, there are times when the more wealthy people can afford better attorneys, and they get off lighter than those who can't. That is not justice. Also, equity is very important. We must treat all people equally well. David ruled over all 12 tribes, but he did not allow preference to be shown to the tribe of Judah, even though that was his tribe and the largest tribe in Israel. Every person should have the same opportunity to excel if he or she works hard and applies himself or herself well. However, there are all types of laws and rules in our country that are not applied in an equitable way. This is not good, because it stirs up division and malice toward groups of people. Let's all pray for leaders like David, who will administer justice and equity to all people.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 9-11.
