Being in the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time
Good things happened to us when we are in the right place at the right time. However, the opposite is true also. Bad things happen to us when we are in the wrong place at the wrong time. David learned this lesson the hard way when he stayed at home, instead of going out to war with his army at the time of year kings went to battle. (II Samuel 11:1) We all need to learn from his negative results, so we can avoid the hurt and pain caused by not being in the right place at the right time.
The Bible is silent as to why David stayed home. That is really not important. It is sufficient to know that he stayed home when he should have been with his army in the fight. There are no excuses for not doing what we know is the right hing to do. That is always a sin. (James 4:17) Once we have committed that sin or any other sin, it usually leads to other sins. In this case staying at home led to adultery and then to murder. All of that would have been averted if David had just been in the right place at the right time. He would not have had to try to resist temptation, because the temptation would not have arisen. He would not have been tempted to consider murder of a loyal follower, either. It all came from one wrong decision. I would urge all of us to consider this reality and determine to always be in the right place at the right time by following God's will for us without exception.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Samuel 12-14.
