Why Keep God's Rules?
A lot of people say it is too hard to keep God's rules and statutes, so they do whatever they want to do, unless God's way happens to be easier for them in a certain area. Also, there are some people who justify not doing what God says. They think they are above God's laws, or that they really know better than God. That is a very prideful position to take. However, both are completely off base. God gives us the reason that we should keep His rules. (Leviticus 18:4,5) We need to consider His reason.
We should keep the rules and statutes of God, because He is the Lord. He is the Lord of the universe. He not only created all things by His wisdom and power, but He rules in all things. If we realize this, even if we are not a believer in Jesus Christ, we should know that God knows what He is doing. However, it goes deeper than that, if we are a believer. He is the Lord "your God." He is the personal Lord of your life. He is the Master of your life. Why would you doubt Him and disobey His clear rules and statues? It is a very foolish thing for a servant to go against the rules of the Master, and that is just what we do when we fail to keep what God says. Please, consider it from this angle and I believe you will have to agree with what God tells us to do and do it well, even if it is hard or seems wrong to you..
Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 19-22.
