The Oil and the Blood

The Bible has a lot of symbols. If we understand the symbols, we can see the full meaning of what God was saying to us in His Word. Oil has always symbolized the Holy Spirit, so when a person was anointed with the anointing oil, it was a way of saying they wanted God to send His Spirit upon them. The priests were anointed because they needed the Spirit to guide them in their duties. The blood represents life. The life of any man or animal is in the blood. Therefore, when God calls for a blood sacrifice, there is death by the shedding of blood to cleanse from sin or to bring peace with God. That is why God commanded Moses to sprinkle anointing oil and blood from the altar on Aaron, his sons, and their holy garments to consecrate them to His service in the tabernacle. (Leviticus 8:30) What does that mean for us today?

We are all ministers for the Lord and priests today, if we are born again Christians. That is why we are commanded to be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18) The power of the Spirit is the only way we can do God's work. Therefore, we must give ourselves to the Lord and ask for His Spirit to control us. Also, without the blood being applied to our lives, we are sinful before the Lord. When we are born again, the blood of Jesus is sprinkled on us to cleanse us and make us holy for the Lord. When this is true for any believer, we are fully consecrated to God for His service and His use, whatever that may be. I pray that we will be aware of these two things every day, and be good ministers for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 9-11.
