Ignorance of God's Commands
If we are ignorant of God's commands, that does not free us from being guilty of breaking them. Ignorance is not an excuse that God accepts. God makes this clear in His Word. (Leviticus 5:17) If ignorance was a reason for God not to hold us guilty for our sins, then, it would be wise for people to steer clear of reading the Bible and hearing God's Word taught and preached. God's purpose of giving us His commands is to help us avoid sin, so we can live a great life, free from the destruction that sin brings. Therefore, nothing should ever make anyone think that God would do anything to discourage people from reading and keeping His commands.
Now that we live in the time of the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit has been commissioned to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. (John 16:8-11) He makes sure that everyone in the world knows when he or she sins. He convicts them of the sin by how they feel, and God's punishment for that sin is delivered to show them their guilt. Then, it is up to each individual to cry out to God in repentance and confession of that sin. If their hearts are soft, and their response is pleasing to God, He draws them more and shows them the gospel of Jesus in some way, so they can be saved from their sins once and for all.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 6-8.
