The Jubilee Year Blessing
God is so serious about the need for a Sabbath rest every seven days and every seven years that He even decreed to Israel that they were to allow the land to rest the seventh year. They were not to plant crops or gather what grew on its own, even from the grape vines and fruit trees. They were to depend on God to give them enough the sixth year for the seventh also. Then, every fifty years was the year of Jubilee. The people were to return to the land they had sold, be set free if they had to become slaves to their brothers, and the land was to rest again. That would make two years in a row to let the land rest. The people would need to trust God for the Jubilee Year blessing. On the sixth year before the Jubilee they would harvest enough for three years worth of food. (Leviticus 25:11,21) Now, that is an amazing blessing!
I wonder if we would be able to trust God for the Sabbath Year blessing and the Jubilee Year blessing? Israel failed to obey God and let the land rest. They were either unbelieving or greedy, but they missed the blessing of a year off, and they received God's punishment for not letting the land rest. Let's not be too hard on them, though. We might do the same thing, since we see so many people not resting on the Sabbath Day each week, so they can worship the Lord and seek Him. Also, we see so many people not believing that God can bless what they make to stretch if they are faithful to give their 10% tithe of their income all of the time. Why don't we trust God that much? I am sure it varies from one person to the next, but if we fail to trust Him, we fail to receive the blessings, and we fail to see His miracles of making what He gives us abound to meet our needs as we obey Him. In fact, we see Him take away some of what He has given us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Leviticus 26-27 and Numbers 1.
