Pronouncing God's Blessing on the People
God gave Aaron and his sons, the priests, a blessing to pronounce on the people. It was to place His name upon them. (Numbers 6:24-26) I am always drawn to this passage when I read this section of the book, because it is such a wonderful expression of what we all need in our lives. God knew our needs, and this shows that it was His desire to meet those needs as only He can. Let's consider what He said.
"The Lord bless you and keep you." We all need for God to bless us and to give us the security of knowing that we are safely in His hands forever. "The Lord make His face to shine upon you." Even greater than a bright, sun drenched day is the shine of God's face upon us, showing us His smile and His favor in our lives. "And be gracious to you." It is always a blessing when God gives us more than we deserve. That is His abundant, loving grace. "The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace." When God looks right at us, we are flooded with the peace of knowing He has us under His protection and provision, so there is no reason to worry or fret, no matter what storms come. I pray that each of us will experience God's blessing in all of these dimensions every day
Tomorrow, I intend to read Number 8-10..
