Fully Following the Lord
The Bible tells us that Caleb was very blessed by the Lord, because His spirit was different from the other spies sent into the land of Canaan, and he followed the Lord fully. (Numbers 14:24) When God saw these things He decreed that Caleb would be brought into the land he spied out, and his descendants would possess it. This was in contrast to everyone else, except Joshua, as they would all die in the wilderness over the next 40 years. We need to check our spirit and our commitment to follow the Lord to make sure we can receive such blessings, too.
Our spirit is the part of us that relates to God. We can have a good spirit or a bad spirit. A good spirit will listen to the Lord in a very sensitive way, so that we hear all of His words to us and we consider all of His commands fully. Then, we are able to fully follow Him, if we will simply not do our own will, but do His will in all things. To have a good spirit we have to die to ourselves and recognize that Jesus is Lord, so we submit to Him. He changes our heart and makes our spirit sensitive to His voice. Then, the rest is up to us, as we have within ourselves the ability to trust Him fully. When we do, He empowers us to do whatever He leads us to do.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 15-18.
