Love Covers a Multitude of Sins
Godly love is a powerful force. I am not talking about the love we hear about most of the time in the media and from other people. That is not real love. God's love is unselfish and unconditional. God loves everyone, and He desires for us to do the same. He especially wants us to be very intentional about loving other believers. Love must be a priority for all Christians. When we make it that priority, we will find it has the power to cover a multitude of sins. (I Peter 4:8) Let' think about this for a few moments.
Love is deciding to be more concerned for the other person than for ourselves. Love is wanting the best for the other person. Love makes sacrifices for others. When we truly love one another, we will not get angry quickly or be hateful to one another. We will not hold grudges or desire to hurt the other person, even if they hurt us. The opposite is true. When they do hurtful things to us, we will be gracious and forgiving, because our godly love will cover those sins, so we can keep loving them, in spite of their sins. This does not mean we condone their sins or that we do not talk with them about those things. That would not be love. It means that when we do talk with them, it is done in love, because we want them to know what is right and do what is right, so they can be blessed by God, not punished.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Peter 5 and II Peter 1-2.
