Abiding in Christ
Once we come to know Christ as Lord and Savior, God has a goal for each of us. We are to become like Jesus in our own unique way. As we live each day of our Christian life, we are to abide in Him, and as we abide in Him and in His Word, we become more and more like Jesus by the power of the Spirit. (I John 2:6) John told us how we can tell we are abiding in Jesus. We need to keep this in our minds all of the time.
If we abide in Christ, we are residing or living our lives in Him. The word abide is sometimes translated "remain." We stay close to Him, as we depend on Him daily and grow in our understanding and application of the Bible. The way we will know we are abiding in Jesus is that we will begin to live like Jesus. We will do what He did. We will have His attitude about things. (Philippians 2:1-11) We will love others as He did. There will be evidence to others that Jesus has changed us, and He is giving us the power to be like Him in what we do and how we think. I wonder how we are doing at reaching God's goal for our lives, if we judge ourselves by this standard?
Tomorrow, I intend to read I John 3-5.
