Gold, White Garments, and Eye Salve

What would you like to receive this Christmas? I am sure the answer to that question varies greatly for each of us. Some may want a little, while others want a lot. However, how long will what you receive last? If we are fortunate, it may last a few years. Wouldn't it be much better to receive things that last forever and help us make an impact for eternity? I believe that would be a wise choice. The good thing is that these things are available from the Lord. He is ready to give us gold, white garments, and eye salve. (Revelation 3:18) All we have to do is purchase them from Him by seeking what He desires for us, instead of what we want for our selves.

When Jesus told the Christians in Laodicea that they were poor and naked and blind, He was describing their spiritual condition. They had all that money could buy, but none of that would last. They needed eternal treasures, which are the things we do according to God's will to impact others to know Christ and to grow in Him. They had all types of fancy clothes, of which they were very proud, but they needed purity of their hearts which comes from confession of sins and walking daily as Jesus walked. They had the eye salve of this world that was produced near their hometown, but they needed God's eye salve of the Spirit, so they could see things with the eyes of God, eyes of wisdom. We can be guilty of these three things, too. We could have plenty of money, clothes, and medicines, but we are failing to grow in the Lord and to make an impact on others for God's kingdom. Why not change our wish list this Christmas into a prayer list and pray according to these things which God wants us to have?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Revelation 4,5.
