We Have Received the Spirit from God

Every believer has what it takes to receive God's revelation. We can discern His voice and hear what He has to say to us, because we have received the Holy Spirit, who is from God. (I Corinthians 2:12) In fact, He is God, and it is His job to point us to Christ and to reveal to us God's will about sin, righteousness, judgment and truth. That makes us different from those who do not know the Lord and only have the spirit of this world. It does not make us superior to anyone, but it does give us a special ability to hear from the Lord.

We are all spiritually dead until we come to know Christ. Then, we are born again from above. We have a new life, and we are a new creation. (II Corinthians 5:17) That only happens by the grace of God as a free gift once we surrender to Christ in repentance and faith, admitting that we can't save ourselves, but Jesus is Lord, and He is the only One who can save us, because of His perfect sacrifice for us. At salvation, the Spirit of God comes to live in us. He communicates with us the things God has freely given to us, as we read the Bible and pray. He brings the Bible to light and explains it to us. He speaks to our hearts, and directs our paths, as we listen to the Word and His still, small voice. Then, we can follow the revelation of God to us, and live the way God designed us to live. Without Him we would have no way of knowing just what the Lord wants us to know, but with Him we can receive all God has for us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Corinthians 3-5.
