The Bread and the Cup

The Lord Jesus Christ instituted a special ordinance for the church, when He celebrated the Passover meal with His disciples the last time right before going to the Cross. During the supper, He took unleavened bread, broke it, and passed it around to the disciples to symbolize His broken, sinless body on the cross. Then, He took the cup and explained that it represented His blood which He would shed for the sins of everyone who will ever live, so they drank from it, too. Finally, He explained that they were to keep observing this ordinance until He returned from heaven, each time remembering His death for them. (I Corinthians 11:26) We all need to take heed to what Jesus did and remember it well.

There never will be a greater act of love than Jesus going to the Cross to die for us. He took God's wrath against sin, as His body was tortured for us. He gave His blood as the only payment that could atone for our sins and pay our sin debt to God. He did it all out of love. Then, He arose three days later, only to ascend back to heaven 40 days after that. Now, He could come at any moment to receive the believers to go with Him to glory. We all need to be ready for that event we call the Rapture of the church. The only way to be ready is to know Christ as Lord and Savior, and to live a holy life of service to Him. The Lord's Supper is God's way of helping us never forget Jesus' death or His return, so we can all be ready.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Corinthians 12-14.
