Knowledge Makes Arrogant, but Love Edifies
It is great to learn and have a lot of knowledge. It can help us in so many ways in our every day lives, and in our jobs. However, there is a huge danger when it comes to having knowledge. We can become arrogant and think we know everything. We can even get to where we think we don't need to listen to God or believe in Him. Look at all of the PhD's who are atheists or agnostics. Therefore, we need to be very careful with our knowledge, and we need to cultivate godly love. When we have love, it builds us up, so we can build up others. (I Corinthians 8:1) Love edifies us and others.
I know we all know arrogant people. They are hard to be around. They are always seeming to talk about themselves and what they know and do. They are quick to give advice, but that advice may be helpful or it may not be helpful. Mostly, they exude pride, which can lead to all types of sins and problems. However, we all know people who have a great amount of love, too. They are always thinking of others first, because that is what love does. They are trying to figure out how to build others up. Instead of talking about themselves, they ask us questions about how we are doing. They are kind, and in their kindness they help us in many ways. God wants us to choose love, and then when we get knowledge, we will use it in the right ways to help people, not to hurt them.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Corinthians 9-11.
