Being of One Accord in Christ

Here in the letter to the Christians in Rome we read an extended passage from the apostle Paul about Christian unity. He begins in chapter 14 by teaching that we are not to judge each other over differences of convictions. When the Bible is very clear about a doctrine, we should all agree on it. However, there are other areas that are open to interpretation, and we should not condemn another true believe who has a differing conviction in those areas. We should love each other and ask God to grant us a supernatural unity so that the world will see Christ in us, not division and contentions. When we do that, we will come to the place where we can be of the same mind and with one accord glorify God with one voice. (Romans 15:5,6) We should prayerfully strive to reach that goal every day.

God loves for His children to be in one accord in Christ. God does not stutter. The Bible is clear for us to understand and follow. Then, when we come to a matter of personal conviction, we can still be gracious and accept each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. This does not mean we compromise on Biblical doctrine. However, it does mean that we are all different, and each of us is in a different place in our walk with the Lord, so we will not always have the same personal convictions and daily relationship with the Lord. Therefore, we do not condemn, but we desire to glorify God with "one voice" as the body of Christ. Christ is not divided and neither should His church be divided. When we live and worship God in one accord, we bring much glory to the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Romans 16 and I Corinthians 1-2.
