The Purpose of Our Afflictions
If we, as believers, did not have afflictions in life, we would miss out on at least two very important things. Some people think that troubles are not productive, but terrible and unprofitable. They get mad when they have problems. However, if we would realize these two truths, it will hep us accomplish our purpose in life. If we miss these two truths, we will fail to be like Jesus and to serve others as we should. (II Corinthians 1:3,4) Let's look at what God's Word tells us here.
When we have afflictions, we can come to know that God is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort in a very personal, practical way. If we go to Him, He will comfort us in our affliction in just the right way for what we are going through. It is the best comfort, and the only comfort that truly heals us from the afflictions. However, once we go to Him, and we receive His unique comfort, then, we can comfort others who are going through the same things with the comfort with which we have been comforted. That is a great ministry. We could not have either of these experiences, if we did not have afflictions in our lives. Therefore, let's allow God to comfort us and then comfort others, so we can truly be like Jesus, who was afflicted more than any other person and who comforted more people in their afflictions than anyone else ever did.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Corinthians 2-4.
