Jesus, Our Friend
Do you have friends in whom you can confide, knowing they will keep it confidential? How about friends who always fill you in on special information that will help you out? Those are the right kind of friends to have. However, they are hard to find today. I have great news for all of us. That is the kind of friend Jesus is to those who know Him and trust Him as Lord. He does not want us to be alone or without the revelation from the Father that will help us live the abundant life. (John 15:15) He is the Best friend anyone can have!
Yes, He is the Lord, and we are His followers. We are not on the same level with Him. He is the Master, and we should think of ourselves as His slaves, as the apostle Paul did. That reminds us that we are to obey Him immediately in everything He tells us and all we know is right. The key is that Jesus has chosen to be our Friend and to call us His friends. That is a special honor for us, but it carries more responsibility. Now that He is gone back to heaven, we are His hands and feet and ambassadors here in this world. Therefore, He fills us in on all we need to know, as we listen closely to Him and allow the Spirit to fill us. He is always there for us, so we can take very burden and care to Him, too. Like the hymn says, "What a friend we have in Jesus!"
