Jesus' Process of Making Disciples
Since all believers need a process of making disciples, we should see what Jesus did. No one did it better than Jesus, and He commanded us to make disciples, too. It was very simple, but yet, it was profound. Jesus simply found people who were curious about Him or seeking the Messiah, and He said, "Come and see." They went home with Him and spent the late afternoon and evening with Him. That way they saw how real He was, and they heard His truth. Then, the next day, when He was going to Galilee, He sought out Philip and said "Follow Me." He said this same thing to others, who He was calling out to be His disciples. They decided to leave all and follow Him. (John 1:39, 43) These are the first two steps of the process Jesus had to make disciples.
We are sent out by Jesus just as the Father sent Him. Therefore, we should constantly be saying to people, "Come and see Jesus." We should be inviting them to spend time with us, so they can see Jesus in us. We should be inviting them to church services and small groups, so they can see other believers and hear the Word of God. All will not say yes, but we need to keep asking. Then, once someone has had time to observe, and we believe they are seeking to know more, we ask them to "Come and follow." That means to trust Jesus as their Lord and Savior, join a church family and be baptized. Be a part of a small group and be regular in worship. It takes dedication to be a disciple of Jesus, and it takes some time to grow in the Lord. That is what happens when a person follows Jesus in these ways. I pray that we will all be actively making disciples like Jesus did. I will share more of Jesus' process in the days to come, but this is a good start for all of us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 2-4.
