Boasting

Most of the time boasting is a sin. It is caused by pride, and the thing about which we boast is usually exaggerated. However, there are many people who boast all of the time. They boast about their abilities, and they boast about their connections with powerful people and things in life. David showed us when it is right to boast, and in what we can boast so that it is not sinful at all, but very good. (Psalm 20:7) I hope we will follow David's godly counsel.

The only time we should boast is when we boast in the name of the Lord, our God. The reason is that anything else in which we might boast will fail us at some time. However, we will never be let down, when we boast in the name of the Lord. He alone is all-powerful. He always keeps His promises. There is nothing He can't overcome in this world or the whole universe. Therefore, if we will boast in Him, we will always be telling the truth. When we boast in the "name" of the Lord, His name represents Him as a person. It encompasses His authority and power, as well as, His love. His name is all of His attributes rolled together. Therefore, when we boast in the Lord, we are boasting in His perfection. It is always right to boast in the Lord and to let others know all about how great He is, and how He is the Only One who can save us from our sins and empower us to live as conquerors every day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 21-24.
