The Lord is a Stronghold
King David knew a lot about war. He knew that the army inside a stronghold had a definite advantage against the enemy. From the stronghold they could look down and see what the enemy was planning to do. The high walls were almost impossible to scale or penetrate. There was great safety while in the stronghold. That is why David referred to God as a Stronghold for the oppressed and for times of trouble. (Psalm 9:9) We all need to learn that when we have an enemy oppressing us or a time of trouble to run to the Lord first.
Most of the time when we are oppressed it is by something or someone stronger than us. We are defeated by a superior power, and that power oppresses us. When we flee to the Lord as our Stronghold, we are safe, because nothing is stronger than the Lord. We will always be secure in His power. Also, when we have troubles, we do not know what to do. If we try to solve the problems ourselves, we will often fail, and we will never do as well as if we had depended on the Lord for His deliverance from the times of trouble. Therefore, when trouble strikes us, we need to enter into the Stronghold, so He can guide us and show us the solution to our trouble.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 12-14.
