The Humble Exalted and the Proud Humbled
There is a spiritual principle that we find in the Bible repeatedly from Genesis to Revelation. The humble will be exalted, and the proud will be humbled. God will make sure of that, because He hates pride, but He loves humility. Haman learned that lesson in a dramatic way, when he was ordered to lead the humble Mordecai through the streets of the city, while Mordecai was wearing the king's robe and crown, as well as being seated on the king's horse. As they paraded through the city, Haman had to proclaim loudly that the king was honoring Mordecai. the one Haman despised. (Esther 6:10) We would all do well to remember this principle.
The book of Proverbs tells us that pride goes before a fall. It leads us into all types of sins, and it finally causes us to be totally brought low, unless we repent of it, and get our hearts right with the Lord. Jesus was the most humble person ever. (Philippians 2:5-11) He is our Lord, and He is our model, too. When He humbled Himself to die the worst possible death for us, God raised Him from the dead and gave Him a name above every name, so that every person who has ever lived will confess humbly that He is Lord. God will also exalt us, if we are truly humble in our hearts and our actions, because we love the Lord and other people so much that we put the Lord first in our lives and others before ourselves.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 8-10 and Job 1.
