God Provides Even in the Wilderness
When we consider the power and love of God to provide for over 2 million people in the wilderness for 40 years, we have to marvel. That is exactly what God did, and the Jewish people in Nehemiah's day celebrated that fact, as well as, all believers do today. (Nehemiah 9:21) This is such a huge accomplishment, but there are several factors that make it even more fantastic.
God's people were in the wilderness for their sin of unbelief and failure to enter the land of Canaan to possess it. They were afraid of the city walls, and the giants there, more than they feared God. However, when they asked for forgiveness, God granted His pardon without removing the punishment, so they would still comprehend the seriousness of their lack of faith. Still, God provided well for them, as they roamed in the dessert all those years. In fact, He fed them well, and He took care of every need, so that they were not in want at all. (Psalm 23) Their clothes did not wear out for 40 years in the hot sun and elements of nature. Their feet did not swell, either. What a mighty and loving God we serve.
This should give us confidence that whatever trials we might be facing or going through now, God will guide us and provide for us, if we will only trust Him. We may be in the wilderness of life, but we will not want. Then, one day He will be faithful to deliver us from the trials of life to be with Him in heaven. There we will always reside in paradise for eternity with Him and all the believers.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 11-13.
