Our Work Accomplished with God's Help
Nehemiah and the people rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem in 52 days. That is almost a miracle from the Lord, but in the very least it was a great example of how things can happen quickly and well with God's help. However, Nehemiah noted one main consequence of this great accomplishment. The people of the surrounding nations lost their confidence, because they knew the only way the wall could have been done that soon was with the help of God. (Nehemiah 6:16) It was such a powerful witness to them, that they could not oppose God's people, but they had to think deeply about believing in the One True God.
I believe all believers should so trust the Lord and ask Him to empower us to do the work He has for us, so that the non-believers around us will be brought to the same realization that the people of Nehemiah's day came to see. God is able, if we are willing to pray and obey Him. Just think of how our world could be turned upside down if many of God's people would allow themselves to be empowered by God and used in this way. Think of how many churches could be revitalized by such a display of God's help in their world. Let's be like Nehemiah and the Jewish people who dared to dream big and accomplish great things with the help of the Lord. Then, let's watch to see what happens.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Nehemiah 8-10.
