Great Joy Heard From Afar
The dedication of the wall of Jerusalem after it had been rebuilt in 52 days was a most joyous occasion for all of the people. I believe this was partly due to the fact that almost all of them were part of the process of rebuilding. However, it was also due to the recognition that God had blessed them in a mighty way. (Nehemiah 12:43) It was an excellent example of true worship of the Lord our God.
Nehemiah appointed two huge choirs to sing from the top of the wall. They were spread out all along the wall to lead in the worship, as the musicians played the instruments. So we see that music was an integral part of their worship. However, what made the music so fantastic was that the people were filled with great joy from the Lord, so that they sang loudly, praising and glorifying Him. Also, there were great sacrifices being made all during the celebration to show their thankfulness for all God had done, and to atone for their sins. This is because God is holy, so we must always come before Him in confession, being clean to approach Him. The combination of these things made the joy of Jerusalem heard from afar.
Each Sunday it is my prayer for God's people to come to worship with great joy in their hearts from their relationship with the Lord to celebrate the Lord Jesus' sacrifice for us. It is my desire for us all to express our thanks and praise, as we sing and exalt His name, so that all who are around us would recognize our love for Him. Also, I want us to come in clean before Him, so God's Spirit will fill us as individuals and fill the place with His presence in a mighty way. Then, we would have worship in Spirit and in truth.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Esther 1-3.
