Set Your Heart to Seek the Lord

What is your heart set on? Yes, it is set on something. You may not have thought about it, but how our hearts are set is very important. King Rehoboam found that out. He started out well in his reign over Judah, but soon he turned away from the Lord and His ways. The reason for his sin was that he did not set his heart to seek the Lord. (II Chronicles 12:14) Let's see what we can learn from this example.

Most people do not set out to do evil. In fact, many people start off well. This is especially true of believers. We trust Christ as our Lord and Savior. We begin to go to church, to pray, and even to study our Bible. We grow for a while. However, if our hearts are not set to seek the Lord, we will gradually drift from doing those good things, and we will begin to listen to Satan, instead of listening to the Lord. To stop this from happening, we can't just do good things. We have to decide that our heart will be set on seeking the Lord, morning, noon, and night, because He is the One we need, the One who sustains us. Then, when we go to church, it will be to seek the Lord and hear from Him. When we pray, we will be seeking to hear from Him, not just tell Him what we want. When we read His Word, it will not just be a good daily practice. We will be set on seeking Him and finding out His will and how to do it. Then, when Satan comes to tempt us, we can say no. We are sure that the Lord would not want us to go that way, because our hearts are set to seek the Lord, not the things of Satan or the things of this world.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 14-16.
