Do Not Fear or Be Dismayed
We have many enemies that come against us in life. Some are individuals. Some are groups of people. At other times, we face situations in life which could destroy us. No matter what enemies arise, we must go to the Lord to seek His protection and guidance. Then, when we have heard from Him, we obey Him, and go forward in His power and with His blessing. That is what happened to King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah when they faced a great multitude. They cried out to God, and God sent a prophet to deliver His message to them. (II Chronicles 20:15,22) He was very clear, and they were very obedient, so they won a great victory. We need to learn this lesson, too.
The prophet told them not to fear or to be dismayed. He gave them the reason they should be encouraged and hopeful. He said, "The battle is not yours, but the Lord's." What a fabulous assurance! It was not up to them to win the battle, but the Lord. Then, the king went among the people to rally them to trust the Lord before the battle began. They started singing and praising the Lord. They were not being fearful, but trusting. Therefore, God set ambushes against the enemy, so that they destroyed themselves without the army of Judah having to fight at all.
That is how it works today. Often, we are fearful or dismayed, instead of trusting the Lord. but if we will stop and pray for His power and direction, we can see His solution, which is better than anything we could have thought up. Remember, the battle is the Lord's, so give in to Him, and stand back to watch what He can do.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 21-24.
