They Would Not Listen

Many years ago a man named Chuck Hicks came to know the Lord Jesus at Downsville Baptist Church just south of Waco, Texas. As a new believer, he was eager to learn about the Bible and grow in the Lord. I was trying my best to teach him what I knew. One evening at a Bible study, Chuck said a very profound thing, "Most people do pretty much just what they want to do." I will always remember that, because he was exactly right, even though he was young in the Lord. That is why God can send His prophets to bring people back to Him, and they won't listen to them. (II Chronicles 24:19) They still want to do just what they want to do.

If we don't watch out, we will fall into this trap. God will communicate His truth to us through His Word and other people, but we will not listen. Yes, we will hear, but we will go ahead and do what we want to do, instead of putting God's will into our lives. That is a dangerous way to live. God is even more harsh in His judgment on people who know the truth well and reject it. Please, listen to the Bible and God's prophets and teachers. Do what they say, and watch God  bless your life, instead of having to admonish you.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 25-27.
