Failure from Lack of Faith
The tribe of Judah was given an inheritance in Canaan that included the city of Jerusalem. They were to drive out all of the inhabitants of the land, so that they would not be tempted by them to worship idols. However, they could not drive the Jebusites out of Jerusalem, but they let them live among them, which was contrary to God's command. (Joshua 15:63) This was a failure because of a lack of faith. Let me explain.
If you read the whole passage for today, perhaps you noticed what God promised in Joshua 13:6, "I will drive them out from before the sons of Israel, only allot it to Israel for an inheritance as I have commanded you." That is pretty plain, isn't it? God would have given them the power to drive out the Jebusites, if the tribe of Judah would have trusted Him and sought His power and direction. He had already told them that, but they failed to believe Him, so they failed to do His will.
The same thing happens to us any time we know what God has said about something, either in His Word or by speaking to our hearts, and we do not act in faith to trust that He will do what He said. Then, we fail, and it is from a lack of faith in the Lord. We have no reason to doubt God. If we will trust Him, we can defeat any enemy that comes our way. If we do not trust Him, we will fail, since He responds to our faith.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 17-20.
