Sin Always Has Consequences
The tribes of Reuben and Gad asked to receive their inheritance of land on the east side of the Jordan River when they saw how the land of Gilead was suited for livestock. Moses was upset at first, because he thought they were trying to get out of helping the other tribes conquer the peoples of the Promised Land, Canaan. However, once they said their armed men would fight until the whole land was subdued before returning home to their families and possessions, Moses granted their request, but not without a warning. (Numbers 32:20,21,23) His words are very appropriate for all of us today as well.
He assured these two tribes that if they did not fulfill their obligation to fight with their brothers, that it was sin, and "be sure your sins will find you out." They could not hide across the Jordan river and get away with sin. None of us can hide anywhere from any sin. All sins will find us out. Even when we confess our sins and repent, we have consequences from God, so that we will not want to sin again, and we will learn to hate sin like God does. Just think, if we could sin and simply confess the sin, so that we would not have any punishment at all, then, God would be encouraging us to sin. That would be harmful to us,and God is not the kind of Father to harm His children.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 34-36.
