God's Provision for the Levites
The tribe of Levi did not receive a section of land in Canaan or across the Jordan river like the other tribes, because their inheritance was the Lord, not land. They were special to the Lord, and He made provision to take care of them very well. The Levites were given 48 cities in which to live. These cities were spread throughout the land, so the Levites were living among all the other tribes. In each city they were given the pasture land right around the cities. (Numbers 35:2) If that wasn't enough the Lord sustained them from the offerings of His people for the work of the tabernacle. They were very blessed by the Lord.
Today, all believers are God's special possession. He is our inheritance, because we are not citizens of this world, but of heaven. He takes care of us, as we trust Him and honor Him with our tithes and offerings. We should not be concerned about our inheritance here in this world, but we should be looking to heaven where we will be with the Lord. We should be laying up treasures there by doing the Lord's will here on this earth and serving Him well. I pray that we all can rest in His provision for us in Christ Jesus. He has forgiven us, gifted us for His service, supplied every spiritual blessing we need, and given us His armor to defeat Satan and his forces. He feeds us on His word, too. What a wonderful Lord we have!
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 1-4.
