Keeping Your Word
God knows that words are important. He also knows that integrity is essential for people to be trusted. That is why He made very clear to Moses the rule about keeping any vow or binding oath. (Numbers 30:2) We must be diligent to keep our word once we have given it to God or to another person.
Think about the Lord. His Word is true. We can count on Him doing anything He said He will do. When He shows us something as we pray and listen to Him, He will always do it. He is trustworthy, like we just learned. Now, remember, we are to be like the Lord. We must have the same steadfast integrity in what we say and do. It says a lot about how mature we are in the Lord.
I know we have all failed in keeping our vows to God and to others, but that should teach us a lesson. We should be careful not to make a vow we can't keep. Also, once we make a vow, it must be a high priority for us, no matter what else happens in our lives. When God sees us doing those things, He will be very pleased with us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 31-33.
